Dr. Mesfer Al-Zahrani appointed KFUPM Vice Rector for Academic Affairs

Dr. Mesfer Al-Zahrani

The Council of Higher Education Interim Committee at its 19th meeting, decided to appoint Dr. Mesfer M. Al-Zahrani as KFUPM Vice Rector for Academic Affairs for a period of three years from the beginning of 2019.

Dr. Al-Zahrani obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering from KFUPM and a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1995.

Dr. Al-Zahrani has held many positions at KFUPM. He worked as Deputy Dean of Student Affairs for Employment and Training during the period 2005-2008. He was the Dean of Student Affairs from 2008 to 2016. He then served as the Dean of the College of Engineering from 2016 until he was appointed as Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Al-Zahrani has also been a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering at KFUPM since joining in 1987 in the fields of teaching and scientific research.

Dr. Al-Zahrani has published many research papers in scientific journals and participated in international conferences. He has chaired and participated in several research projects funded by KACST, Saudi Aramco, Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu, SABIC and other companies.

Dr. Mesfer Al-Zahrani's research interests include the performance and durability of infrastructure facilities, the impact of the environmental conditions on the durability and performance of various construction materials such as concrete, reinforcing materials, protective coatings and advanced composite materials. In addition to his research interests, he also studies the phenomenon of corrosion and protection methods for multiple types of installations and conduct researches in finding materials and means to improve the performance of concrete installations and to extend their life span.
