KFUPM Summer Scientific Forum Concluded

The 18th Summer Scientific Forum for the talented students at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) concluded its activities on Thursday, July 4, 2019. The Program lasted for three weeks with the participation of 160 talented students from around the Kingdom.

The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mesfer M. Al-Zahrani attended the closing ceremony, which was held in building 70, and a number of KFUPM faculty members, parents and a large number of students.

The ceremony included a scientific exhibition in which students presented their scientific projects and briefed to the visitors about the scientific concept through some practical demonstrations. The Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Mesfer M. Al-Zahrani listened to the students' presentation on their projects, commended their efforts during the program, and wished them success in their career.

The students gave tribute to the supervisors whose dedication was pivotal to the success of the Program as well as they thanked the University for its hospitality.

During the ceremony, the winners and enrichment units of the program were honored, and all students who participated in the program were awarded certificates of appreciation.

The Program Director, Dr. Turki Baroud, said that the summer enrichment program for this year is a continuation of a series of successes, we got benefit from the previous experience, and further we continue to develop for the better. He noted that the program supervisors spent nearly seven months of striving and continuously preparing to create an educational environment in which the talented student grow intellectually, scientifically and socially in full capacity.

He explained that we have received 160 students from intermediate and high schools from the finest and elite of this country. They were divided into eight enrichment units, including mechanical and electrical engineering, engineering design, coding, chemistry, aeronautics and renewable energy. It also included clubs and educational activities.

In order to achieve the scientific aspect to the fullest, the forum was keen to revive the students’ skill through interactive lectures aimed at developing the student personality and strengthen his academic performance.

It is worth mentioning that the activities of the summer scientific forum for the talented students, hosted by KFUPM, started on Saturday, June 15, 2019 and continued until Thursday, July 4, 2019.

The Summer Scientific Forum is one of the intensive programs aimed at intermediate and high school students under the supervision of King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (MAWHIBA). The Program aims at enriching the students in the fields of science and engineering that help them to implement their ideas, to identify and practice the skills and methods of thinking in a scientific and practical way. It also aims to train them on life skills such as teamwork, managing priorities, and working under pressure, as well as to train the participants for using the methodology of scientific research in an academic environment that stimulate their creative thinking.

King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity is dedicated to spread the talent and creativity in the Kingdom and harness all energies to discover the talented students and take care of them. The Foundation has been organizing summer programs for talented people in all regions of the Kingdom, including KFUPM Summer Program, which began with the beginning of the summer talent programs project and benefited hundreds of students, many of whom won prizes in international competitions.
