On Wednesday 18th October 2017, a delegation from Saudi Aramco Board
of Directors visited the College of Petroleum Engineering and Earth Sciences at
King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, which was recently established
by the University with the support of the company.
HE Dr. Khalid Bin Saleh Al-Sultan, Rector and Board
Member of ARAMCO, made a presentation in which he explained that the College is
one of the most important fruits of the partnership and cooperation between KFUPM
and SAUDI ARAMCO and the results of years of planning and joint work between
the university and the company.
Dr. Sultan pointed to the university's vision, pointing out that it is
consistent with the Kingdom vision 2030, pointing to the most important
programs of the university and its initiatives such as exchange of the university
experience, student exchange program, volunteer activities and patents of the
university.” In establishing this college, we keen to make it deserve the
reputation of both King Fahd University and Saudi Aramco”. He added.
He explained that the Department of Petroleum Engineering and the Department of
Earth Sciences were merged in one college due to their mutual activities and
the importance of their role in the development of the oil and gas industry and
the energy sector in general.
He added that the College has succeeded in attracting a
group of international distinguished professors to support its progress which
aspires to be among the top five faculties in the world in petroleum
engineering and earth sciences over the next ten years. He pointed out that the
College is confidently passing to its desired position and evaluating its
performance with precise standards.
He pointed out that the College has adopted five basic
elements: distinguished cadres, accredited academic programs, high quality
research, as well as auxiliary programs and services.
The Dean of the Faculty of Petroleum and Earth Sciences, Dr. Abdul Aziz
Al-Kaabi gave a detailed presentation about the college and its departments,
vision, mission and plans of study, and then the visitors saw the building
design model.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Shaibani, Head of Earth Sciences and two of the department
students gave a presentation on the department, its history, stages of
development, its most important academic and research achievements and the student
projects and their field visits.
Dr. Dhafer Al-Shehri, head of Petroleum Engineering Department, and a number of
Petroleum Engineering students offered a presentation on the Petroleum
Engineering Department, the most important educational techniques used in the
department, and the number of students and graduates.
Faculty from the department presented research models and briefed visitors on a number of college labs through live video, including the Enhancing Recovery Lab presented by Dr. Abdullah Al- Sultan.
