Prince of the Eastern Province honors the Former Rector of KFUPM

His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, patronized the ceremony organized by King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) on Tuesday, 11 December, 2018 to honor its former Rector, HE Dr. Khalid S. Al-Sultan.

The ceremony, which was held at the King Fahd Convention and Exhibition Center , was attended by a number of His Highnesses, Excellencies, heads of companies and officials in the Kingdom.
The Rector of KFUPM, Dr. Sahel N. Abduljauwad, thanked His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, for sponsoring the honoring ceremony, which reflects the enthusiasm of the leaders of this country to honor and encourage its distinguished citizens.

Dr. Abduljauwad said that the leadership qualities of Dr. Khalid Al Sultan had played a major role in overcoming many of the challenges faced by KFUPM. He added that the former Rector had succeeded in keeping pace with the rapid development witnessed by higher education in the world, and had determined the course of KFUPM, pushing it to the forefront of Saudi and Arab universities.

KFUPM has witnessed a great development under the leadership of Dr. Khalid Al Sultan, and has launched several pioneering initiatives that have strengthened its position both locally and internationally. KFUPM has focused on developing students' skills and helping them through the university experience, developing academic programs and keeping up with international standards in education. Its graduates have become the first choice for employers due to their abilities to meet the new and evolving needs of the labor market.

Dr. Abduljauwad added that the University supported its research mission by motivating researchers and faculty to create, innovate, produce patents, and link practical research with development priorities. KFUPM has benefited from international expertise and experiences, attracted distinguished scientists, collaborated with major international universities, extended bridges of cooperation with the industrial sector, developed strategic partnerships with major local companies, and succeeded in taking important steps in the establishment of sustainable mechanisms of technology transfer, licensing and commercialization.

In his speech, the former Rector of KFUPM, HE Dr. Khalid Al-Sultan, stressed that all the achievements of the University were made possible by the grace of Allah and the material and moral support of the government led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Dr. Al-Sultan also praised the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province and His Royal Highness Prince Ahmed bin Fahd bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, for their support of KFUPM activities and events. He thanked the Minister of Education, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Issa for his continued support and guidance.

Dr. Al-Sultan thanked his colleagues from the KFUPM community, professors and students whose efforts and assistance have contributed to the University's high status and distinguished scientific reputation. He urged them to redouble their efforts to keep pace with the rapid developments witnessed in higher education and the various sciences.
