The 5th Senior Design Expo and the 10th Student Forum

On Wednesday, 17th April 2019, Dr. Sahel N. Abduljauwad, KFUPM Rector, inaugurated the 5th Senior Design Expo and the 10th Student Forum at the University.
580 students participated in the Senior Design Expo, representing 175 teams. The 10th Student Forum included more than 80 participants in scientific research path, as well as other participants in innovation, community service, public speaking, and works of art.
Dr. Abduljauwad looked at all the projects and listened to a brief explanation from the students about their individual projects. He also honored the 32 Senior Design Expo winner teams, 15 students of the 10th Student Forum and KFUPM winners in the regional and international competitions during the current academic year. He also mentioned the working committees in the Expo and the forum such as the Executive Committee of Senior Design Expo and the Scientific Committee of the 10th Student Forum.
Dr. Mesfer Al-Zahrani, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, said “we celebrate today the achievement of our students in the Senior Design competition, noting that graduation projects are essential elements in all engineering programs”.
The Expo and Forum are directed by the Supervisory Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Mesfer Al-Zahrani, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Ahmed Alojairi, Dean of Student Affairs, chaired the Organizing Committee of the Student Forum and Dr. Ali Al-Shaikhi, Dean of the College of Engineering, chaired the Organizing Committee of the Senior Design Expo.
The evaluation is carried out in two phases. The first evaluation is by the academic section and the second by the expo arbitration committees. The arbitration committees examine each project and listen to a presentation by one of the students.
In addition to the scientific and technical content of the project, evaluation includes the model, poster, presentation and discussion. The result is determined by calculating the scores of the two evaluation stages. The evaluation of the department is very important because the department knows more about the details of the project and because the evaluation during the competition is done in a short period.
