KFUPM International Advisory Board (IAB) Held its 25th Meeting

25th International Advisory Board Meeting

The International Advisory Board of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (IAB - KFUPM) held its 25th meeting in Prague, capital of the Czech Republic, on Thursday and Friday, October 10-11, 2019.

The board members attended the meeting. The IAB includes a group of prominent local and international scientific figures in the academic and industrial sectors.

The meeting included a review of the developments witnessed by the University since the last meeting of the KFUPM Council six months ago, on the steps to transform KFUPM into a Research University. In order to mirror the world's most prestigious universities known for their effective economic impact. KFUPM accepted the first batch of female graduate students in the fields of mathematics, computer science and business management.

The meeting included a review of the efficiency of spending at the University, a review of the future vision of KFUPM’s strategic transformation and a review of the ways to achieve integration between the academic and research sectors at the University.

The meeting’s program also included a visit to Czech Technical University to learn about its experience in technology transfer and the possibility of future cooperation between the two universities.

25th International Advisory Board Meeting

KFUPM’s Rector, Dr. Sahel Abduljauwad, stated that the Council aims to achieve a set of objectives, including the provision of a specialized consultancy for KFUPM’s vision, to benefit from the global trends and developments in higher education, technical & industrial development, and to support the University's efforts in enhancing its competitive advantage and prestige at the global level. It also aims to activate KFUPM’s partnerships with global academic and industrial institutions, to propose new development initiatives for the University, and to contribute to the development of the educational process, research output and community outreach of the University.

Since the establishment of the Council, KFUPM has made sure that its members are chosen in a balanced manner between the industrial and academic sectors and that it has attracted some of the world's leading academics, university administrators, CEOs and senior executives of the world's largest industrial companies.

The IAB Secretary General, Dr. Samir Al-Baiyat. said that the board members attending the meeting included: Mr. Martin Jischke (Chairman of the Board), former President of Purdue University, USA; Dr. Sahel N. Abduljauwad, Rector of KFUPM; Eng. Amin Bin Hassan Al-Nasser, President of Saudi Aramco and Chief Executive Officer; Mr. Paal Kibsgaard, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Schlumberger, USA; Dr. Charles Elachi, Vice-President of Caltech and the former Director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, USA; Dr. Tony Chan, President of KAUST; Mr. Seifi Ghasemi, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Air Products, USA; Dr. Abdulaziz bin Saleh Aljarbou, Chairman, Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC); Dr. Nam P. Suh, former President of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea; Professor Hugo Sonnenschein, former President of the University of Chicago, Illinois, USA; Dr. Samir Al-Baiyat, Secretary General of the IAB.
