KFUPM's Research Rally: Tackling Global Challenges

KFUPM’s Knowledge Exchange Hub (KIKX) hosted the inaugural Impactful Research Rally with nearly 20 of the University’s Interdisciplinary Research Centers (IRCs) showcasing top examples of research that is tackling the world’s Grand Challenges.

“This rally is part of the new KFUPM,” said Dr. Muhammad Alsaggaf. “We are in a transformation, especially in the research sector.”

“We are stimulating research and innovations that is inclusive, interdisciplinary, impactful, solves Grand Challenges, helps advance existing sectors and will create new sectors.”

The rally brought together research center directors who each had five minutes to present their center’s top projects that will improve humanity, encourage new sectors, and find solutions to the climate change challenges facing the world.

“Each project showcased today represents the highest aspirations of our research centers,” said AlSaggaf, who was joined at the Rally by the University’s prestigious International Advisory Board. “A rally means it is an informal gathering to share our research successes. It is not a thesis defense.”

Members of the Advisory Board, along with the President, shared feedback and asked questions related to each research that was presented.

Everything from plastic waste reduction, to portable nuclear power stations, to using sunlight as a disinfectant was showcased by the 19 IRCs.
