(SaudiCIS) 2024: Pioneering AI in Digital Economies

DHAHRAN, Saudi Arabia – The Saudi Conference on Information Systems (SaudiCIS), affiliated with the Association for Information Systems (SaudiCIS) 2024 represents a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia's push into AI and the digital economy. Organized by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) from November 19 to 21, 2024, this event aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 focus on fostering innovation and positioning the country as a global leader in digital economy-driven transformation.

SaudiCIS 2024 was organized by KFUPM represented by the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Finance and Digital Economy, the SDAIA-KFUPM Joint Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, and the KFUPM Institute for Knowledge Exchange (KIKX) in partnership with the Association for Information Systems.

Under the theme "Artificial Intelligence in Digital Economies", SaudiCIS 2024 convened the participation of over 500 attendees, featuring ten different tracks. The diversity of topics, ranging from AI in healthcare to FinTech innovations and ethical concerns, reflects the interdisciplinarity and the forward-thinking nature of the event. The conference received 81 paper submissions from over 75 academic institutions across 23 countries, highlighting Saudi Arabia’s embrace of global perspectives and collaboration. It also included nine awards recognizing excellence in research, including best paper, abstract, and reviewer awards.

Dr. Ali Al-Shaikhi, the Vice President of Research and Innovation at KFUPM and the Steering Committee Chair, emphasized, “SaudiCIS is a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and forward-thinking dialogue. Together, we explore AI's potential to transform industries, redefine value chains, and tackle global challenges, ensuring AI’s power is harnessed meaningfully.”

In addition, KFUPM announced impactful partnerships during the conference including the partnership with Kafalah Program, that highlights an effort to boost the growth and sustainability of small and medium enterprises (SME’s) in finance, and the collaboration with the Eastern Health Cluster, that focuses on leveraging AI for early detection of chronic diseases and improving healthcare outcomes.
