Future Innovators Begin Their Mawhiba Journey at KFUPM

KFUPM launched the 25th Mawhiba Academic and Research Programs, in partnership with the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), on July 5, 2026, welcoming gifted high school students from across Saudi Arabia for a summer experience that combines academic enrichment, hands-on research, and innovation under the guidance of distinguished faculty members.

The program is offered through two complementary tracks: the Academic Program and the Research Program.

The Academic Program brings together 240 students for an intensive three-week journey designed to strengthen their scientific and engineering skills while encouraging innovation and creative thinking. Participants engage in six specialized tracks: Chemical Applications, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Rockets and Space Missions, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Design Principles, and Cybersecurity. Through these tracks, students develop practical solutions that address challenges in healthcare, energy, industry, environmental sustainability, and the economy of the future.

The Research Program hosts 56 students for four weeks, introducing them to the fundamentals of scientific research, research ethics, laboratory practices, data analysis, and technical writing. Under the supervision of 42 faculty mentors, participants will conduct research across 12 of KFUPM's specialized research centers, working on projects in fields such as sustainable energy, robotics, communication systems, and hydrogen technologies, culminating in high-quality research outcomes.

Over the past quarter century, the Mawhiba Programs at KFUPM have helped shape generations of young innovators and researchers. Many alumni have gone on to win international awards, including the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), publish scientific papers, and earn patents—demonstrating the program's lasting contribution to Saudi Arabia's innovation ecosystem.

By hosting the Mawhiba Academic and Research Programs, KFUPM contributes to nurturing the next generation of innovators through a rich learning environment, advanced research facilities, and expert faculty supervision.
