AI Projects Showcase Event at KFUPM

The SDAIA-KFUPM Joint Research Center for AI organized the AI Projects Showcase Event on December 18–19, 2024, at the Innovation Cluster in Dhahran Techno Valley. The event brought together students, researchers, and industry professionals to highlight advancements in artificial intelligence and its transformative potential.

The event featured 25 presentations on AI applications in fields such as energy, environment, safety, security, healthcare, and education. These presentations showcased innovative projects that demonstrated the vast possibilities of AI across various domains. Alongside the presentations, attendees experienced 8 live interactive demonstrations of AI technologies developed by the center, offering a hands-on glimpse into the practical applications of AI. Additionally, over 20 student-led posters highlighted promising research initiatives, emphasizing the role of young innovators in driving AI forward.

Keynotes and panel discussions were another highlight of the event, covering a diverse range of topics, including AI innovation for small businesses, emerging machine learning technologies for intelligent systems, multimodal AI applications in healthcare, and optimizing large language models for domain-specific uses. These discussions provided valuable insights into the current trends and challenges in AI development.

The event also included nine specialized research presentations by the center esteemed fellows addressing critical areas such as AI in bioinformatics and medicine, crowd modeling for virtual environments, AI innovations in urban mobility for smart cities, signal processing and imaging, and AI applications in smart grids and renewable energy. Other topics explored included secure and efficient object detection systems (SERLOD), low-resource natural language processing, accelerated machine learning, and big data analytics.

The SDAIA-KFUPM Joint Research Center for AI is dedicated to advancing AI research and applications to establish Saudi Arabia as a global leader in data-driven economies. Over the past three years, the center has published more than 200 research papers in prestigious journals and conferences, filed over 20 patents, and advised over 120 students to excel in AI research and development. The AI Projects Showcase Event was a testament to these efforts, fostering collaboration and innovation while reinforcing the Kingdom’s commitment to AI excellence and sustainable development on a global scale.
