Camel Day Celebration Blends Taste and Tradition

In celebration of World Camel Day on June 22, 2025, KFUPM held a special cultural and culinary event organized by the General Directorate of Food Services. The event took place at Al-Jabal Restaurant and welcomed more than 250 participants, including students, faculty, and staff.

A Rich Culinary Experience
The celebration featured a unique menu centered on camel products. The main dishes included camel meat shawarma, Kabsa, steak with mushroom sauce, grilled kofta, burgers, and pasta with béchamel and camel meat. Complementary items included fresh camel milk, milkshakes, and Karak tea made with camel milk. A variety of desserts also with camel milk such as mini tarts, cheesecakes, brownies, and traditional Umm Ali were also served.

Cultural Heritage and National Significance
The event also reflected the national significance of camels in Saudi Arabia. In 2024, the Kingdom designated the year as the “Year of the Camel” in recognition of the animal’s unique cultural value. Camels have played a central role in the lives of the people of the Arabian Peninsula since ancient times, serving as companions across vast deserts, appearing in poetry and folklore, and symbolizing loyalty, endurance, and tradition.

Today, camels continue to stand as a living testament to Saudi heritage and a core element of the national identity. Through events like World Camel Day, KFUPM aims to preserve and promote this heritage while encouraging greater appreciation for the camel’s enduring role in Saudi culture.
