KFUPM becomes first Saudi University to launch ChatGPT Edu

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) has announced a collaboration with OpenAI to introduce ChatGPT Edu, a dedicated AI platform designed to enhance learning, research, and innovation within the university’s academic ecosystem. As the first university in Saudi Arabia to integrate ChatGPT Edu, this initiative marks KFUPM’s commitment to pioneering artificial intelligence in higher education, reinforcing its leadership in technology and scientific advancement.

KFUPM students, faculty, and researchers will gain secure access to OpenAI’s state-of-the-art AI tools, enabling deeper engagement in academic research, personalized learning, and collaborative innovation. The initiative aligns with KFUPM’s ongoing efforts to integrate artificial intelligence into higher education, equipping its community with the tools to drive transformative progress.

KFUPM Advancing AI in Higher Education

Over the past five years, KFUPM has undergone a remarkable transformation, launching groundbreaking AI and technology-driven programs that have solidified its status as a global hub for innovation. Key initiatives include:

● AI+X Initiative: Five years ago, before the rise of ChatGPT and other large-scale AI models, KFUPM implemented the AI+X framework, requiring all students, regardless of their major, to first build a strong foundation in artificial intelligence before delving into their specialized fields. This ensures that AI proficiency is embedded across disciplines, allowing graduates to apply AI-driven solutions in their respective areas of expertise.

● SDAIA KFUPM Research Center for AI: SDAIA has established a research center for AI with KFUPM, a hub dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence research and applications. The center plays a pivotal role in driving AI-driven innovations across multiple sectors, fostering collaborations with industry leaders and global institutions.

● Expanding AI-Centric Academic Programs: KFUPM has introduced 95 new academic programs, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Cybersecurity and Blockchain, Quantum Computing, Bioelectronics and Sensors, and Robotics and Autonomous Systems, all designed to develop future-ready talent.
