King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of two distinguished faculty members, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Al-Areeq and Dr. Ashraf Awadh Abdullah Bahraq, who were honored at the prestigious Eng. Tarek Al-Kasabi Award for Excellence in Civil Engineering 2024. This esteemed award, hosted by King Saud University, recognizes outstanding contributions to the civil engineering field across Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Areeq, from the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department, led a groundbreaking group research from IRC-MWS and IRC-ISS on flood subsidence susceptibility mapping using hybrid data intelligence models, with a case study focused on Jeddah City. Reflecting on the recognition, Dr. Al-Areeq remarked, "This award underscores the importance of innovative research in addressing real-world challenges. Our team's dedication to advancing water resource management through cutting-edge technology has been pivotal."
Complementing this achievement, Dr. Ashraf Bahraq from the Interdisciplinary Research Centers for Construction and Building Materials, spearheaded a project enhancing the adhesion properties of cement/epoxy interfaces with graphene-based nanomaterials. Dr. Bahraq shared, "The award validates our efforts to integrate computational materials science with practical engineering applications, promoting sustainability and durability in construction materials."
Both faculty members emphasized the vital role of KFUPM's support in their success. The university's resources and encouragement were instrumental in propelling their research to national acclaim, further solidifying KFUPM's position as a leader in civil engineering innovation.
