KFUPM Highlights Sustainability Efforts at COP16 in Riyadh

From December 2-13, 2024, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) made a significant impact at the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) hosted in Riyadh.

As part of its participation, KFUPM contributed to a key panel discussion under the theme Promoting Environmental Sustainability in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The session featured distinguished researchers from KFUPM's Applied Research Center for Environment and Marine Studies, including:

  • Dr. Fayma Mushtaq, Post-Doctoral Fellow
  • Dr. Luai Alhems, Director of ARC for Environment and Marine Studies
  • Dr. Jiya Albert, Group Leader, Environmental Modeling
  • Dr. Subhajit Kumar, Group Leader, Terrestrial

KFUPM also showcased its innovative research, academic programs, and sustainability initiatives at a dedicated exhibition booth, reflecting its unwavering commitment to advancing global environmental goals.

This participation underscores KFUPM’s dedication to impactful research that aligns with national priorities and targets grand challenges as part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. It also highlights how KFUPM’s newly launched research strategy drives the university's strategic transformation while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability through impactful research initiatives.
