KFUPM Honored for AI Excellence at the 5th Qassim Award

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) was recognized by HRH Prince Dr. Faisal bin Mishaal bin Saud bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Qassim and Chairman of the Qassim Award for Excellence and Creativity, for its outstanding contributions to artificial intelligence research.

On May 21, 2025, during a ceremony hosted by Qassim University, the SDAIA-KFUPM Joint Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, established in partnership with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), was awarded the 5th Qassim Award for Excellence and Innovation in the category of "Scientific Research and Innovation – Artificial Intelligence Research." Over the past three years, the center has delivered 29 research projects, 17 scientific innovations, 25 patents, and over 200 academic papers.

These efforts are led by more than 60 researchers from KFUPM and its affiliated interdisciplinary research centers. The center’s work targets critical domains such as energy and industry, future economies, human health, sustainable environments, and essential resource supply chains. In addition to its research output, the center has actively organized conferences, competitions, and technical workshops to advance the AI ecosystem in the Kingdom.

As it expands, the SDAIA-KFUPM Joint Research Center for AI aspires to position the Kingdom as a global leader in artificial intelligence, offering innovative solutions to national and international challenges and contributing to the realization of Vision 2030’s ambition for a sustainable, knowledge-based economy.
