KFUPM Showcases Heritage at International Restoration Week

King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), represented by the College of Design and Built Environment, is taking part in the International Restoration Week, organized by the Saudi Heritage Commission at Riyadh’s JAX District in Diriyah from 1–5 October 2025. The event brings together experts, practitioners, and cultural leaders to raise awareness about preserving architectural and cultural heritage through exhibitions, workshops, discussion sessions, and cultural activities.

KFUPM’s participation features a workshop titled “Adaptive Reuse and Reviving Eastern Province Heritage: Projects Across Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region,” led by Dr. Mohammad Sharif Zami, Associate Professor of Architecture, and Dr. Riyad Mobark Ashmeel, Assistant Professor of Architecture. The session explores adaptive reuse, sustainable design, and the emerging role of generative AI in digital heritage.

Alongside the workshop, KFUPM presents a collection of research posters that document heritage preservation and restoration projects across the Eastern Province, including Qatif, Al-Ahsa, Dammam, and Jubail. The university also engages visitors through a dedicated booth that showcases its ongoing research, innovative approaches, and contributions to heritage preservation.

By combining academic expertise, research outputs, and interactive engagement, KFUPM highlights its role in documenting, preserving, and reimagining the Kingdom’s cultural heritage for future generations.
