KFUPM Student Shines at a Prestigious Conference in Japan

With great pride, we celebrate the remarkable achievement of Khalid Mohammad Alfuwail, a student at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM), who participated in the 13th International Conference on Renewable Energy Research and Applications (ICRERA) held in Nagasaki, Japan from November 9–13, 2024.

Khalid presented his research titled "Renewable Power Generation Maximization for UAVs with Adaptive Sliding Mode Control", showcasing innovative advancements in the field of renewable energy applications for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

As part of Team UAS2030, which previously secured first place in the prestigious Student Unmanned Aerial Systems (SUAS 2024) global competition, Khalid proposed a cutting-edge solution to improve UAV flight operations. His approach integrates a Ram Air Turbine (RAT) as an additional power source, enabling UAVs to achieve longer flight times, greater distances, and enhanced efficiency. Moreover, this system incorporates Sliding Mode Control combined with AI models to optimize performance further.
