At the recent Agreement Signing Ceremony between KFUPM and various entities, a group of extraordinary KFUPM students took the stage to present their remarkable achievements, leaving the audience in awe. Their inspiring journeys not only highlighted the university's commitment to fostering student development, innovation, and global engagement but also earned high praise from HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, Minister of Energy. Impressed by their outstanding presentations, the Minister thanked the students for their hard work, innovation, and the impactful contributions they are making to society. The 7 Habits of KFUPM Students – Tasneem Al-Atresh Tasneem captivated the audience with her presentation on the seven key habits embraced by KFUPM students. She emphasized how KFUPM encourages its students to foster high ambitions, promote self-reliance, practice positivity and kindness, engage in global experiences, collaborate in interdisciplinary teams, participate in scientific research, and build entrepreneurial skills. These habits are designed to maximize students' societal impact and enhance their future professional success, forming the foundation for the university’s commitment to comprehensive student development.
KFUPM Drone Team Experience – Wail Sulais Wail’s presentation showcased the transformation of KFUPM’s educational approach, transitioning from traditional education to TEAM Education. He shared how the university’s emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration enabled his computer science, engineering, and aerospace team to clinch first place in the prestigious international SUAS competition in the USA. Their journey was a true testament to KFUPM’s commitment to fostering teamwork, high aspirations, and innovation.
Submarine Project (Miniature Autonomous Submarine) – Sadiq Albader Sadiq's presentation on the interdisciplinary teamwork behind KFUPM's Miniature Autonomous Submarine project demonstrated the power of collaboration. With students from computer science, mechanical, and electrical engineering working together, the team is pushing the boundaries of innovation in underwater robotics.
Refugee Housing Project – Ismail Hawsawi Ismail’s team, composed of students from aerospace, architectural, mechanical, and electrical engineering, proposed a revolutionary solution to address the global refugee housing crisis. Their quick-construct, collapsible shelter system, which can be assembled in under 20 minutes, promises to alleviate the suffering of millions in need of housing. This interdisciplinary project reflects KFUPM's commitment to encouraging students to advance innovative solutions for humanity and the common good, aligning with the university’s research goals to address pressing global challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge technology.
Summer Field Trip Experience—Dhay Alqahtani Dhay shared her unforgettable adventure exploring Oman, Southern KSA, and the petroleum industry within the international visits program. Her presentation included a fascinating recount of her hiking trips in the Asir region and the Hajar Mountains, alongside engaging industry visits to PEGTC and other leading petroleum companies like MAADEN, Aramco, and SLB.
South Korea Trip – Abdallah Makhdoum Abdallah’s journey to South Korea allowed him to delve into nuclear energy research at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). He also shared insights into the importance of cultural exchange, discussing how he and his peers from KFUPM interacted with Korean colleagues, fostering mutual understanding and respect.
Japan Trip – Almamoun Alhazmi Almamoun’s experience in Japan at JGC Corporation gave him a unique opportunity to combine technical training with cultural immersion. His story highlighted the significance of the global experience and how it enhances both personal and professional growth.
Females in KFUPM – Zainab AlTuraiki Zainab’s inspiring presentation captured the heart of the event. As a KFUPM Ambassador, she shared her journey of breaking barriers to becoming a software engineer, which began in 2020 when she discovered that KFUPM was the only Saudi university offering the program. However, at the time, KFUPM was a male only university. Determined, she applied to study abroad and was accepted into the University of Edinburgh. When KFUPM announced it would start accepting female students, Zainab decided to return and join the first female cohort in 2021. She emphasized how KFUPM’s inclusive environment now offers equal opportunities for both male and female students, providing access to all campus facilities. Zainab’s inspiring talk highlighted the empowerment of women in STEM at KFUPM, encouraging others to pursue their dreams without limitations.
