As part of the KFUPM Explores program, a group of students embarked on a remarkable journey to Japan, where tradition and innovation coexist in harmony. The trip reflected KFUPM’s commitment to fostering global understanding and cultural exchange beyond the classroom.
From the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to the cultural heart of Osaka, students experienced the values of discipline, respect, and collaboration that define Japanese society. During their visit, they toured the Saudi Embassy in Japan and Mohammed Bin Salman Center for Future Science and Technology at The University of Tokyo., gaining deeper insights into diplomatic and academic exchange. The locals were exceptionally kind and welcoming. Even with the language barrier, they always tried their best to help. Many were curious about Saudi Arabia and showed genuine interest in learning about its culture, turning every interaction into an opportunity for meaningful connection and mutual understanding.
Planning and navigating together strengthened the team’s leadership, adaptability, and decision-making skills, especially when facing unexpected challenges. The experience also revealed how Japan balances modern progress with deep-rooted traditions, an insight that inspired students to bring similar values into their own lives.
Reflecting on their experience, the team shared valuable advice for future KFUPM Explores participants. They emphasized the importance of early planning, flexibility, and approaching every experience with curiosity and openness. Learning a few basic phrases in the local language can make a meaningful difference in connecting with others. Above all, they encouraged future teams to enjoy every moment and embrace the journey as an opportunity to learn from new cultures rather than simply visit new places.
The KFUPM Explores program continues to nurture globally aware, culturally grounded leaders, embodying the Seven Habits of KFUPM students. that prepare them to learn, lead, and make a positive impact wherever they go.
