Reporting Week 2025 Launches Under Theme “Teaching with AI”

To mark the start of the new academic year, the Deanship of Academic Development (DAD) at KFUPM inaugurated Reporting Week 2025 on Monday, August 11, under the theme “Teaching with AI.” The event attracted more than 300 faculty members on campus and approximately 800 online, setting an engaging tone for the week.

Opening Day Highlights

The morning program opened with welcoming remarks from Dr. Mesfer Alzahrani, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the university’s vision:

“Our University is committed to integrating the potential of AI to enhance the quality of teaching and learning while upholding academic integrity.”

The program continued with remarks from Dr. Abdulaziz Alaswad, Dean of Academic Development, who presented a two-week agenda featuring keynote sessions, interactive workshops, and hands-on training led by distinguished experts from organizations including OpenAI, Harvard Business Publishing, and NACADA.

Students at the Center of AI Innovation

The opening day also featured student contributions showcasing practical applications of AI in learning. One student, Hadeel Suleiman, explained how she uses AI to turn lectures into interactive study tools:

“I put the lecture into AI, record a voice note with what I remember from it, and then ask AI to generate questions about the parts I did not mention in my recording.”

Her approach demonstrated how students are creatively using AI to identify knowledge gaps, strengthen understanding, and engage in active learning.

A Continuation of AI Leadership

This event builds on KFUPM’s recent collaboration with OpenAI to introduce ChatGPT Edu, a dedicated AI platform for education, research, and innovation. As the first university in Saudi Arabia to adopt ChatGPT Edu, KFUPM reaffirms its commitment to pioneering AI integration in higher education, equipping its academic community with advanced tools to foster innovation, research excellence, and global impact.
