The 33rd Annual Saudi-Japan Symposium on Technology in Fuels and Petrochemicals wrapped up at KFUPM Dhahran Techno Valley, leaving a lasting impact on the future of sustainable solutions in the downstream industry. Co-organized by the KFUPM Center for Refining & Advanced Chemicals (CRAC), Saudi Aramco Catalyst Center of Excellence (CCoE), Japan Cooperation Center for Petroleum & Sustainable Energy (JCCP), and the Japan Petroleum Institute (JPI), the event was a melting pot of ideas, bringing together global experts, researchers, and industry leaders to push the boundaries of innovation. With the theme “Advancing Sustainable Solutions,” the discussions centered around groundbreaking topics like liquids to chemicals, waste to chemicals, gas to liquids, alternative and renewable fuels, and cheminformatics.
Attendees were treated to 20 insightful presentations from internationally renowned experts, along with six dynamic sessions diving into Waste-to-Chemicals, Sustainable Solutions, New Challenges in Processes and Fuels, Advanced Catalyst Technologies, Sustainable Chemicals, and CO2 Capture and Conversion. Adding to the energy of the event, 30 poster presentations showcased the cutting-edge research of graduate students, postdocs, and researchers from KFUPM and Saudi Aramco, underlining the vital role of young scientists in shaping a greener future.
This year’s symposium once again proved to be a driving force for collaboration and innovation, strengthening ties between Saudi Arabia and Japan in their shared mission toward a more sustainable and efficient energy future. With fresh insights, bold ideas, and promising advancements, the event reinforced its status as a key catalyst for progress in fuels, petrochemicals, and environmental solutions.
