Salman Al-Shehri, a standout student in the Bioengineering program under the College of Chemistry at KFUPM, achieved exceptional recognition on both the national and international stage. He earned 1st Prize in the Chemathon competition at the LabTech 2025 International Conference in Jazan, held under the patronage of HRH Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Mohammed. Earlier, he also secured 2nd place in the SCACSI Chemathon hosted at KFUPM and delivered an outstanding research presentation to the university’s Industrial Advisory Board.
Salman’s winning research focuses on identifying novel biomarkers for thyroid cancer, aiming to improve prognosis, reduce medical costs, and advance personalized treatment plans, an ambition closely aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
Balancing Excellence in Research and Academics
Despite the demands of high-level competitions and intensive research, Salman continued to excel academically as an honor student. He described time management and passion as the keys to juggling major exams, research responsibilities, and competition preparation.
“My goal was to showcase my capabilities and connect with peers who share the same scientific curiosity,” he said, reflecting on his motivation.
Looking Ahead
Salman plans to further advance his research and continue participating in scientific conferences and competitions.
“Scientific research is my passion, and I hope to pursue and strengthen it throughout my life” he shared.
He also expressed gratitude for the strong institutional support he received:
“KFUPM supported me at every step, hosting the first competition and contributing significantly to the second.”
