Students’ Global Experience through the Summer Training

Every summer, KFUPM students step beyond the classroom walls and into the global stage through the International Summer Training Program, a transformative journey that bridges knowledge with practice. Dozens of students travel across continents to gain hands-on experience, explore new cultures, and connect with leading companies.

Among them, seven students shared inspiring stories of how their training shaped both their professional and personal growth. From the U.S. to China, Canada, India, and beyond, their journeys show the diverse opportunities that this program creates.

From Spectroscopy to Data Science in the U.S.

For Osama Wael Aljohani (Chemical Engineering), Austin, Texas, became the place where chemistry met data during his internship at JP3 Measurement. He worked on infrared and Raman spectrometers while leading a project on data analysis.

“Seeing spectroscopy applied in real-world technology was eye-opening. This training bridged the gap between abstract knowledge and real-life application. My advice to KFUPM students is simple: don’t miss this program, it will reshape your journey.”

Robotics & Innovation in China

Fares Abbas Elghamdi (Electrical Engineering) joined Alkhorayef Petroleum Company in Shanghai, China, gaining insights into cutting-edge ESP technology. What stood out most was a visit he arranged to a robotics firm.

“We had the chance to tour AGIPOD, a robotics company working on humanization of robotics. Watching innovation in action reminded me how initiative can open unexpected doors.”

Engineering Across Borders in KSA & UAE

Feras Sami Alghamdi (Aerospace Engineering) interned with NOV in both Saudi Arabia and the UAE, rotating through technical, operational, and HSE departments.

“Every city and every team taught me something new. Collaborating with professionals from diverse backgrounds pushed me to adapt quickly and strengthened both my engineering skills and confidence.”

Drilling into Real-World Experience in Canada

For Nawaf Shaker Alnemari (Mechanical Engineering), joining TAQA Drilling Solutions in Canada brought textbooks to life.

“Working on a real drilling project showed me how central mechanical engineering is to the energy sector. More importantly, I learned how to communicate in a multicultural workplace, an experience as valuable as the technical training itself.”

Vision 2030 in Action in China

Mohammed Ali Alibrahim (Mechanical Engineering) trained with The Center Group in China, witnessing large-scale operations and global project management.

“The most inspiring part was seeing how global projects tie back to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. It made me realize that engineering isn’t just technical, it’s about contributing to a nation’s future direction.”

From Classroom to Cockpit in Bahrain

At Bahrain Airport, Ali Ahmed Albinalshaikh (Aerospace Engineering) transformed theory into practice through hands-on aircraft maintenance training.

“I wasn’t just studying, I was building, troubleshooting, and ensuring systems were safe for passengers. The moment I held tools to build real aircraft parts, I truly understood what it means to be an engineer.”

Control Systems Mastery in India

Muteb Hajij Aljohani (Control & Instrumentation Engineering) joined Emerson in Nashik, India, where he worked with the Delta V control system in both hardware and software.

“Getting hands-on with both hardware and software broadened my perspective. This training didn’t just add to my skills, it gave me a clearer vision of my future career path.”
