Students Win First Place in IMA Case Competition

A student team from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) won first place in the IMA Student Case Competition 2025, held on May 28 in Riyadh and organized through a collaboration between the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA). The competition brought together 432 students from 106 teams across 9 countries in the Middle East and Africa.

The winning team included Abdullah Al Motairy, Lolwah Althomairy, Sara Almulhim, and Rawan Aldamkh, representing academic backgrounds in accounting, finance, and industrial and systems engineering. They competed under the guidance of Mr. Ehab Qahwash, faculty member at KFUPM.

The students presented a strategic solution to a business case titled "Recruiting Players in the National Basketball Association (NBA)". Their analysis focused on cost-effective talent acquisition strategies and proposed methods to improve cost management and financial decision-making in the professional sports sector.

Their outstanding performance earned them the first-place prize of 5000 USD, as well as professional mentorship and Scholarships to pursue CMA certification.

This achievement reflects the students’ ability to address real-world challenges through critical thinking, collaboration, and financial insight. It also reinforces the role of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in preparing future leaders capable of delivering impact across global industries.
