The Applied Research Center for Environment and Marine Studies at KFUPM hosted “Sustaining Wings: A Community-Engaged Bird Conservation Effort.” Designed as an awareness campaign, the event encouraged collective corporate responsibility toward protecting local bird species. Held in Building 15’s auditorium, the occasion brought together over 30 attendees, including students, faculty, and long-time partners of the university. Among those, Saudi Aramco and Lamprell, whose partnerships extend over nearly three decades, brought impactful research, ideas, and contributions.
Participants explored practical conservation measures, such as bird hydration techniques, and discussed how both individuals and institutions can contribute to preserving ecological balance. The initiative speaks directly to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals such as Life on Land (SDG 15), Climate Action (SDG 13), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
While ecology is a core pillar of the center’s focus, it is only one of four overarching themes guiding its research agenda. As one of over 20 research centers at KFUPM, the center plays a key role in the university’s broader transformation strategy, dedicated to developing solutions that respond to today’s complex global issues.
