Dhahran, December 16, 2024: King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) organized the 11th edition of its renowned student project exhibition, "KFUPM Design Expo 2024," on Sunday, December 15th. This year’s Expo featured 93 teams, representing over 450 talented students, who showcased innovative projects designed to solve groundbreaking challenges in several industry fields. The Expo was attended by KFUPM President Dr. Muhammad Al-Saggaf, industry experts supervising student projects, students’ families, and visitors.
The KFUPM Design Expo is built around the "TEAM-Design" system, a unique team-building framework that brings together students from diverse disciplines to collaborate on interdisciplinary projects. It reflects KFUPM’s commitment to fostering interdisciplinary teamwork interaction as part of its comprehensive student development culture.
For example, Aerospace engineering students collaborated with information and computer science and electrical engineering students to develop a real-time system for detecting and tracking space debris using advanced AI models. This innovative approach, which earned “The Best Prototype Award”, highlights the power of interdisciplinary teamwork in addressing major challenges and preparing students for industry roles.
The event also emphasized direct interaction with industry experts. Through engagements with industrial companies and feedback from professionals, students refined their solutions and aligned their projects with industry needs.
At the conclusion of the Expo, President Dr. Al-Saggaf honored the winning teams, presenting 10 awards across various categories. Eight winning teams were honored for their distinguished projects, and two faculty members were recognized as the best new coaches.
The KFUPM Expo 2024 is a unique opportunity to demonstrate innovation, practicality, and significant potential impact on modern industries.
