The KFUPM Council held its fifth session in the academic year 1438/1439H under the chairmanship of HE Dr. Khaled bin Saleh Al-Sultan, Rector of the University and deputy chairman of the council. Attendees included Dr. Mohammed Abdulaziz Al Saleh, Secretary General of the Interim Committee of the Higher Education Council, Vice Rectors, Deans and the supporting deanships. At the beginning of the session, HE the Rector welcomed and thanked the attendees for their efforts in improving the University's performance and enhancing the educational and research process. His Excellency said that the University achievements are a result of the great support it received from our wise government under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, and the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, pointing to their visit to the Eastern Province and honoring it in the 29th Arab Summit.

Following the meeting, Dr. Omar Abdallah Al-Suwailem, Dean of Faculty and Personnel Affairs, said that the Council discussed the issues on the agenda and adopted several resolutions, including the development of the sub-specialization program in chemistry. This program allows students from other disciplines to obtain a sub-specialization in chemistry, which is increasingly needed in the industry. This program emphasizes the importance in keeping pace with the global trends in the diversity of students’ education and knowledge, as well as enhancing the abilities of KFUPM students in scientific research.

The Council approved the new students’ admission conditions for the year 1439/1440 H as a part of its continued commitment to adopt the studied objectives and criteria to improve the admissions process, achieve justice in the selection of students, and to ensure a high level of performance and academic achievement.

Admission depends on obtaining a specific aggregate mark based on the Secondary School certificate, the general capacity test and the achievement test for the scientific colleges, which are conducted by The National Center for Assessment (Qiyas).

He concluded by saying that the Council discussed other issues, including some of its decisions such as renewing the contracts of the Saudi faculty, approving the executive rules for admission and academic performance in the Dammam Community College, and approving the balance sheet and final accounts for the fiscal year 1438 / 1439 H.
