KFUPM Reaches 63rd Place Globally

KFUPM achieved another historic milestone in the 2027 QS World University Rankings, announced June 18th 2026, reaching 63rd place globally and reinforcing its position among the world’s top 100 universities for the second consecutive year. The university remains the only Arab university to achieve this distinction, reflecting the results of a transformation journey that began several years ago.

Since 2020, KFUPM has expanded its curriculum into emerging fields aligned with national priorities and global needs, introducing new academic programs and concentrations, adopting interdisciplinary approaches to learning and research, integrating artificial intelligence throughout its educational model, expanding international diversity, and adding new approaches to student development and classroom learning.

A defining aspect of this transformation has been the university’s approach to research. KFUPM changed its focus from measuring success primarily through publication volume toward creating tangible impact for society and the economy. Research centers were reorganized into interdisciplinary entities designed to address complex challenges that extend across traditional academic boundaries. At the same time, the university actively promoted commercialization, encouraging researchers to translate discoveries into practical applications, technologies, and businesses. This philosophy has been reflected in the evolution of Dhahran Techno Valley, which has grown into a technology and entrepreneurship ecosystem hosting more than fifty companies operating in advanced sectors.

KFUPM has also introduced several educational initiatives that have influenced the higher education landscape in Saudi Arabia. These include unconditional admission for winners of scientific Olympiads, opportunities for outstanding students to begin university-level study at an early stage, and direct admission pathways from bachelor’s degrees to PhD programs. The university has also developed innovative academic pathways, such as the pre-med track that combines engineering and medical education, reflecting the increasing integration of disciplines required to address modern challenges.

The impact of these efforts is reflected in our graduate outcomes. KFUPM students continue to achieve strong employment results and are widely recognized by employers for their technical expertise, adaptability, and leadership potential. The university has supported this objective through a student development framework known as the 7 Habits of KFUPM Students, which emphasizes high aspirations, self-reliance, global experiences, interdisciplinary collaboration, research engagement, entrepreneurship, and positive thinking.

For KFUPM, rankings have never been viewed as the ultimate objective. The latest QS ranking therefore serves not only as international recognition, but also as evidence of its successful transformation designed to prepare students, advance knowledge, and contribute to the future development of Saudi Arabia and the world.
