KFUPM Organized a Workshop on the Cooperation Agreement with KACARE

On Monday, January 21, 2018, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) organized a workshop on the cooperation agreement with King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE). The workshop was attended by the Vice-Rector for Applied Research Dr. Nasser al-Aqeeli and a number of officials and researchers from both sides.

The workshop, which was held at Dhahran Techno Valley, aims at discussing and presenting the areas and opportunities for cooperation between KFUPM and KACARE, introducing the projects and research activities that KACARE is working on and making use of the University's experience in developing them.

Dr. Al-Aqeeli said that the University is looking forward to a long-term and sustainable cooperation with the City, pointing out that a lot of effort has been made between KFUPM and KACARE in order to formulate an agreement containing multiple levels of interaction.. After the workshop forms and guidelines related to this co-operation were released.

The cooperation with KACARE in the field of research is one of the best forms of cooperation that KFUPM has undertaken. Dr. Al-Aqeeli praised the commitment of the City towards this cooperation, which indicates the size of expectations from KFUPM as the first institution to sign such agreements with the City, and hoped that the cooperation between the two parties shall be a model of cooperation with other universities.

The workshop discussed the objectives of cooperation between the two sides in research, education, entrepreneurship and training. KACARE research fields and projects were presented. These researches coincide with the Saudi Vision in relying on renewable energy instead of the conventional fuels such as solar and wind network, renewable energy use in water desalination. KACARE developed a number of modern technologies. The workshop discussed the possibility of KFUPM participation in this aspect. In addition to the presentation of KFUPM programs and research projects in the field of renewable energy and atomic engineering and discussed the opportunities for cooperation in the common fields.

The workshop comes after the signing of a cooperation agreement with KACARE on (12 December 2018) to promote the quality of science, technology, education and industrial development in the atomic and renewable energy in the Kingdom.

The cooperation between the University and the City includes several areas, the most important of which is the financing of scholarships by the City for graduate students at the University in important research fields serving the national economy and keeping pace with the Saudi Vision 2030. The scholarship includes the master degree program in atomic or renewable energy. The University offers advisory services to the City. In addition to the establishment of an energy center at KFUPM funded by KACARE.

The agreement also includes supporting for entrepreneurship by organizing a training program for future entrepreneurs in the field of renewable or atomic energy, with full or partial funding by the City, providing initial cash grants to companies and start-up projects incubated by the University, based on a preliminary work plan, and supporting the establishment of an incubator for energy technologies.
