KFUPM Won Second Place in the International Contest of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists

Students from KFUPM won second place globally in the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.

A team of students from King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (winner of the Middle East competition) won the second place in the Challenge Bowl of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG).

The competition was held in San Antonio, USA on the sidelines of the 2019 SEG International Exposition and 89th Annual Meeting, held from 15 to 20 September 2019.

Nine teams from international universities qualified for the final round of the competition. The University of La Plata team from Argentina got the first place with a total of 143 points, and the team of King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals scored the second place with a total of 127 points while the University of Houston team finished third with a total score of 54 points.

This final stage was preceded by the Middle East finales held in the Sultanate of Oman in April, in which the University team won the first place.

KFUPM was represented by two students at the postgraduate level in the Department of Earth Sciences at the college of Petroleum Engineering and Earth Sciences. The Ph.D. students are Ayman Allahyani and Septriandi Chan, and under the supervision of faculty member Dr. Ammar Al Hussaini.
