College Cup Builds Bridges Through Friendly Competition

KFUPM held the fourth edition of its annual College Cup on Thursday, April 23, 2026, bringing together staff and faculty in a campus-wide program of friendly sports competition. The event recorded 363 participants, including 326 male participants and 37 female participants. This year’s edition introduced a dedicated female category, for the first time, bringing in new teams and widening representation across colleges.

During the opening ceremony, Dr. Wail S. Falath, Dean of the College of General Studies, welcomed attendees and expressed appreciation to all participants and organizers. He further encouraged continued participation and wider involvement in future editions of the College Cup.

The College Cup featured eight sports, including swimming, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, football, basketball, tennis, and squash. Each sport followed a structured format that led to its own medal awards, alongside those based on overall results across all competitions.

In the male category, the College of General Studies secured first place, followed by the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences in second place and the College of Engineering and Physics in third place. Other participating colleges and units included Administrative Offices, the College of Chemicals and Materials, the Research Institute, the College of Design and Built Environment, the College of Computing and Mathematics, KFUPM Business School, and Dammam Community College.

The female category mirrored some the results of the male category, with the College of General Studies and the College of Petroleum Engineering and Geosciences placing first and second, respectively. The third place was claimed by the College of Chemicals and Materials. Additional participation came from the College of Computing and Mathematics, KFUPM Business School, Information Technology, the College of Engineering and Physics, and the College of Design and Built Environment.

Dr. Mesfer Al-Zahrani, Vice President of Academic Affairs, delivered the closing remarks, acknowledging the efforts of both organizers and participants and echoing the desire for continued participation in this event. He also addressed the positive impact of such initiatives on campus life and engagement, merit attributed to the Physical Education Department, led by Dr. Mohammed Hamdan Hashem.

The fourth College Cup reflected the growing interest across the university community in health and wellness activities. It also strengthened connections between colleges by creating opportunities for participants to meet, engage, and build relationships that support future collaborations.
