Graduating Class 56 Walks Into a New Chapter

KFUPM held the graduation ceremony for Class 56 on May 21, 2026, in a milestone moment for the university’s more than six-decade history, celebrating the graduation of its first female bachelor’s cohort. The ceremony was held under the patronage of HRH Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Province, and attended by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy and Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, KFUPM President Dr. Muhammad Al-Saggaf, along with academic leaders, faculty members, and families of the graduates.

The applause began long before the graduates appeared. Even before the first procession entered the venue, the emotional weight of the evening had already revealed itself through the stories shared across the ceremony grounds. On the large screens, student interviews reflected the years that led to this moment. One graduate spoke about balancing work and a master’s degree, spending nearly 12 hours each day between professional responsibilities and academic demands. Another smiled while recalling how he had attended every graduation ceremony over the past three years as part of the Yearbook Committee, photographing graduates one after another, only to finally stand among them this time as a graduate himself.

In the audience, families carried stories of their own. One attendee shared that this was the third graduation celebration her family had experienced at KFUPM. Another parent reflected on working alongside KFUPM alumni for more than three decades, saying they had never disappointed him. Some families had traveled long hours from different parts of Saudi Arabia simply to witness the ceremony in person.

Archival footage of students, alongside emotional remarks from university officials and families, offered a deeply human portrait of Class 56. During the ceremony, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman described the evening as a celebration of an exceptional graduating class, emphasizing that KFUPM had transformed the course of his life and shaped his ambitions, character, and sense of purpose. Dr. Muhammad Al-Saggaf also noted that graduation was not merely the end of an academic journey, but the beginning of a new chapter that would allow graduates to contribute to Saudi Arabia’s future ambitions.

As the ceremony approached its official start, the emotional atmosphere intensified. Families, students, and guests filled the venue hours in advance, while giant screens displayed messages filled with pride, prayers, laughter, and anticipation. It became increasingly clear that the evening was more than a graduation ceremony; it was a shared family milestone shaped by years of sacrifice, patience, and achievement.

Then, as the procession finally began, the emotions inside the hall rose even higher. Graduates walked confidently through waves of applause, fireworks, and cheering families, turning the ceremony into a collective celebration of years of perseverance and long-awaited accomplishment.
