Following six months of focused development, mentorship, and practical application, KFUPM’s young professionals successfully completed the first cycle of the university’s NextGen HiPo program, marking an important milestone in their two-year journey designed to accelerate growth.
Created for early-career employees, the program aims to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and experience needed for long-term career success. While it supports professional growth within KFUPM, its emphasis on transferable capabilities also prepares participants for leadership and professional opportunities throughout their careers.
The program extends across two years and is structured into four six-month development cycles. Each cycle focusses on developing key competencies through a combination of on-the-job learning, mentor guidance, structured learning activities, assignments, and self-directed initiative. Participants are encouraged to apply what they learn directly to their daily responsibilities, creating a continuous connection between development and workplace impact.
The first cycle focused on emotional intelligence, communication, accountability, team Collaboration and adaptability. Throughout the cycle, participants worked closely with experienced KFUPM mentors who played a significant role in their development journey. Drawing on their expertise and professional experience,, mentors provided guidance, developmental assignments, coaching and feedback aimed at strengthening the targeted competencies.
The cycle concluded with an Impact Challenge, a competition designed to demonstrate how participants translated learning into practical outcomes. Through their submissions, participants showcased the knowledge, skills, and approaches they had developed during the previous six months. The quality of the presentations reflected the dedication of both participants and mentors alike, with projects addressing real workplace opportunities. Outstanding submissions were recognized during a special event held on May 19, 2026. The Gold Recognition Award was presented to Rakan Alsunikh. The Silver Recognition Award was received by Alaa Alyousif, while the Bronze Recognition Award was given to Hassan Alowayshir.
The event also marked the expansion of the program cohort, with 19 additional HiPo’s welcomed into the initiative. With one cycle successfully completed and three more ahead, participants now move into the next stage of the program, where a new set of competencies will guide their growth over the coming six months. As the NextGen HiPo journey continues to evolve, the program remains a key investment in developing KFUPM’s future talent, strengthening leadership capabilities and contributing to the university’s long-term success.
