Over 400 Students Begin Their Graduate Journey

On January 15, 2026, the College of Graduate and Interdisciplinary Studies welcomed newly admitted graduate students to the Graduate Studies Orientation Day, marking the official start of their academic journey at KFUPM. The event brought together more than 400 local and international students representing over 30 nationalities.

The Orientation Day was designed to provide students with clarity, confidence, and direction as they transition into graduate studies. Throughout the session, students gained a comprehensive overview of academic expectations, research culture, and university systems, while also learning about the wide range of academic and student support services available to them. The discussions emphasized the importance of academic integrity, strong research foundations, effective learning practices, and active engagement with campus resources to ensure a successful graduate experience.

Beyond academic guidance, the orientation fostered a sense of belonging and connection. Students were introduced to the broader graduate ecosystem, including opportunities for research dissemination, campus involvement, and collaboration across disciplines. The event also highlighted the university’s commitment to supporting students not only academically, but also personally and professionally throughout their time at KFUPM.

In his welcome message, Dr. Suliman Al-Homidan emphasized the significance of being part of a highly selective academic community, stating, “You are selected as the best among a large number of applicants. This year, we received nearly 20,000 applications and admitted only 500 students, reflecting the high expectations we have for our graduate students.”

The Orientation Day served as an essential starting point for building strong academic foundations, aligning expectations, and empowering students to take ownership of their graduate journey. By bringing together students, faculty, and support units in one comprehensive program, the event reaffirmed KFUPM’s commitment to excellence in graduate education and to preparing scholars who are ready to contribute meaningfully to research, innovation, and society.
