Waajd Mohammed Siddiq, a student in the Industrial Engineering program, achieved remarkable success at the Saudi University Sports Federation Karate Championship for Female Students, held in Tabuk. Competing against participants from ten universities across the Kingdom, she earned a gold medal in the individual kata category and a silver medal in the under 61 kg kumite. She received a total prize of SAR 7,000. Her outstanding performance also secured fifth place overall in the championship standings.
Balancing Academics and Training
Waajd’s motivation to join the championship was rooted in her passion for karate and her pride in representing her university.
“I wanted to represent the university honorably and support the role of women in sports,” she shared.
However, the journey wasn’t without challenges.
“Balancing academics and training was one of the most difficult parts. I had to manage my time effectively and stay motivated with support from my teammates,” she explained.
Despite these hurdles, Waajd demonstrated resilience, determination, and discipline throughout her preparation and performance, ultimately contributing to the university’s success in the championship.
Future Aspirations and Advice for Others
Looking ahead, Waajd plans to continue her athletic development by participating in future national and international tournaments. She also hopes to lead training workshops to share her experience with fellow students.
When asked for advice, she encouraged others to embrace similar opportunities:
“Take initiative and make the most of what’s available—these events build confidence, experience, and pride in your university.”
